From 2001 until 2005 Giovanni Castellaneta has been Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Ministers Giuliano Amato and subsequently to Silvio Berlusconi, as well as their Personal Representative for the G8 and G20 Summits.

During his diplomatic career, he held many economic, political and social positions both at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and abroad, especially in the Italian Embassies in Somalia, Francia, Portogallo and in the United Nations Offices in Geneve. In Rome, he also served as Foreign Policy Advisor to the Treasury Minister and then Spokesman of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Director of the Office for
International Activities of the Italian Regions, Head of the Office of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Government Coordinator for the Reconstruction Program in Albania.

From 2002 until May 2011 he was a member of the Board of Directors of Finmeccanica Spa and he has also been the Vice Chairman of the group from 2004 to 2005.
Graduated in Law at University La Sapienza in Rome, he pursued further specialization in International Legal Affairs and Economics in Belgium, Luxemburg and United Kingdom and he practiced law in a Law Firm in Rome.

He is decorated Knight of Grand Cross of the Republic of Italy, and has been bestowed with several foreign decorations among which Officier de la Légion d’Honneur of the French Republic.
He writes on international politics for different Italian newspapers and he is the author of various books and papers among which “Obama e l’ombra cinese” (Obama and the Chinese shadow – Guida Edition, 2010).
