José M. de Areilza is Secretary General of the Aspen Institute España since 2012. He is a Professor and Jean Monnet Chair at ESADE Business School, Barcelona, with a double appointment in the Department of Law and in the Department of General Management and Strategy. His two areas of teaching and research are Law and Politics in the European Union and Power and Influence in Organizations. This year he is a Visiting Professor at INSEAD-Fontainebleau.
He has been Adviser on European and North American affairs in the Spanish Prime Minister’s cabinet. He writes a weekly column on international affairs in ABC, a national newspaper. He is Academy Adjunct Faculty at the Royal Institute of International Affairs -Chatham House, London and a Member of the European Council on Foreign Relations. He serves as President of the British-Spanish Forum (UK-Spain Forum) and a Trustee of the Spanish Navy Museum.
José M. de Areilza holds a Licenciado en Derecho (LL.B. degree) from Complutense University of Madrid, a Doctorate in Law (SJD) and a Masters of Laws (LL.M.) from Harvard Law School and Master in International Relations from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. In 1991 he was admitted to the New York Bar.
